A DAY-WISE ITINERARY FOR THE Great LAKES TREK:
Kashmir Great Lakes Trek Itinerary The most basic trek takes seven nights and eight days to complete the entire trek starting from Sonmarg through Narang. There are numerous unexplored alpine lakes that need longer time to explore. Trip Details, breakfast is served every morning, starting at about 7.30.A.M. The trek begins at 8.30. morning at the beginning of the day. The pack will be taken to eat lunch and will be there during the period from 12.30 until one pm. It’s time for lunch. SIND Valley STONEMARRG SHUTKADI ALTITUDE 2800 Meters
Day 1:
Srinagar to Sonmarg: The journey commences around noon in Srinagar central by car. It will take about 3 hours to Sonmarg. Overnight at the foot of the Tajwais Glacier.In camp on the banks of the river Sindh. This is essential to ensure optimization. A short hike up to The Tajwais Glacier can be wonderful to experience the peak conditions.
NICHNAI ALTITUDE VALLEY 3500 METERS
Day 2:
Sonmarg To Nikalnai 6 hours, 11km distance: The trek begins at Sonmarg to Shekdur.The route is surrounded by vast pastures, tall pine trees, awe-inspiring pines, by lush grass, white mountains, and the glacier stream that flows through the way. The trail takes you towards Silver Birch Forest and eventually follows the Boulder Route to Nichnai Valley. It will be your first experience on the mountains that make up the trek, so it is not uncommon to experience headaches.
VISHANSAR LAK ALTITUDE 4000 METERS
Day 3:
Nichnai Nichinai Vishansar Alpine Great Lake Trek that takes 7 hours and 13 km of distance: The trek begins in Nichinai Valley. The first 3 hours of a grueling climb to the Niklai Pass. The pass is around 4000 m in elevation. The meadows on the way are filled with a stunning assortment of wildflowers that offer a breathtaking panorama of the magnificent Himalayan mountains. Day 4:
Krishnasar Alpine Great Lake is an ideal day to relax, you could take a brief hiking excursion to Krishnasar lake and take in the views. Trout fishing is an option. The meadows around the lakes are stunning.
YAMSAR and GADSAR LAKE ALTITUDE 4300METERS
Day 5:
Vishansar towards Gadsar Alpine Great Lake 8 hours Trek and 16 km Distance: It’s an exhausting day for each member of the team. You require the perfect weather conditions to travel over the Gadsar pass. The hike begins at Vishansar. The initial climb to Krishnasar Lake is comfortable. A two hours steep climb to Krishnasar Lake covers a distance of 4300 meters from Gadsar. The real beauty of Gadsar Pass begins with the enchanting Great Lakes.A stunning panorama at Yamsar Lake and Nanga Parbat is feasible on a clear day. SATSAR LAKE ALTITUDE 3400 meters
DAY 6:
Gadsar up to Satsar Alpine Great Lakes Trek 4 hours and 10 kilometers Distance: The trail begins at Gadsar Campsite. After traversing the bridge of ice,, it is an easy climb until Kasturkut. However, unlike Kasturkut there is a constant settlement consisting of nomadic skulls known as Javdora. After Kasturkut you will take an exit to the left and reach Satsaran camp. After getting to the campsite, you can observe that the lake is Satsar Lake.
HARMUKH PEAK and GANGABAL LAKE ALTITUDE 4000METERS
7 DAYS:
Magandob from Gangabal Twin Alpine Great Lakes Trek 6 hours and 11 km Distance: The trek begins with a 3-hour ascend to Mengandob up to the Zaji Pass. From Zaji Pass you will view two lakes, Gangabal as well as Nandkhol with an unobstructed panorama of the surrounding mountain (Harmukh 5400 m elevation) and Kholsar Lake. There are other lakes visible from the pass. It isn’t easy to travel down from Zaji Pass to Gangabal Campsite close to the lake.
NARANAG VILLAGE, TEMPLE ALTITUDE, AND 2200 METERS
Day 8:
A trek of 6 hours between Gangabal from Gangabal to Narang Valley and 15 km Distance: The route begins with a short walk to Trundkhul and the Budshear Ridge. After 4 hours of a difficult climb before the ridge’s beginnings until Narang Valley. Once you reach Naranag, you will see the ruin of the ancient 4000 years old Naranag Temple and drive to Srinagar.
